To the Editor:
Sometimes I wonder why I’ve been allowed to live such a wonderful life? What have I learned during 91 years? Do you and I have a purpose on this earth?
Reading newspapers and watching TV news everyday can be depressing. We see the same mistakes being made — immorality; unethical, criminal behavior; political influence peddling, and our government’s great sin, the mass killing of innocent people in continuous, unending wars.
Wars against nations that haven’t harmed us in any way. We are a peace-loving, religious people with the world’s most powerful, influential military.
We know “every force must have an equal and opposite force,” so we are frightening all the countries of the world to prepare their nuclear weapons to match ours, to spend billions of dollars to arm themselves against our endless worldwide threats.
We are told the military’s secret budget is not even available to us to scrutinize. We are told that billions of dollars are being spent and wasted on modern military equipment.
We have been told our government lied to us to start devastating, unwinnable wars with the people of Iraq and Afghanistan. Our government angers our World War II ally, Russia, with strangling embargoes. We take similar actions against North Korea.
Meanwhile, more billions of dollars are spent supporting 130 military basis around the world while Congress was recently forced to increase our public debt by $1.1 trillion dollars so our government could pay bills a while longer.
Has this government “of the people, by the people, for the people” become a government of military/industrial war merchants, drone killers and CIA torturers spying on us? What has our government done to the proud U.S.A.?
What has become of our freedom, justice and equality? Can we get it back?
