Korean War veterans to be honored

flagfinalThe Department of Defense is honoring all Korean War Veterans with an official certificate of appreciation, signed by Secretary Leon E. Panetta.

Shelton resident Alphonse Sabetta has been named by the department as a a local Korean War 60th Anniversary Ambassador. Sabetta is making plans to distribute the certificates April 16, at the Shelton American Legion Post 16 to all Korean War Veterans from Ansonia, Derby, Oxford, Seymour and Shelton.

Sign-up registration will be available to any Legion or VFW Post in the five communities.

Once a list is compiled, it will be sent to the Department of Defense. When the completed certificates are received, notice will be published.

“As we honor our valued and treasured veterans of the ‘Forgotten War’ during this period, let us remember the impact their sacrifices made at the 38th Parallel, that was the cornerstone of the fight to defeat communism,”  Sabetta said.
