Providenza Filippone

Providenza Filippone, 88, of Ansonia, peacefully entered into eternal rest on December 7, 2012, at Griffin Hospital, with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Luciano Filippone.

Mrs. Filippone was born in Collesano, Sicily, Italy on April 18, 1924, daughter of the late Antonio and Maria Scaneo Duca.

She was a resident of Ansonia after her immigration from Italy in 1950. Enza began her career as a seamstress at the former B & L Men’s and Boy’s Clothing in Ansonia, later was employed at the former UniRoyal in Naugatuck for 25 years, and retired from Teledyne in Ansonia.

She enjoyed sewing, cooking, and spending time with her loving family.

She is survived by sons, Augustino Filippone of Ansonia, Anthony Filippone (Carol) of Orange, and John Filippone (Patricia) of Shelton, daughters, Carol Nakagawara (Michael) of Ansonia and Maria Carey (Raymond) of Naugatuck, a brother, Gaetano Duca, a sister, Concetta Duca, both of Italy, cherished grandchildren, Alycia Alhage (Richard), Marisa Carey (Matthew Smith), Ryan Filippone (Emily), Stacey Evan (Mark), and Kyle Filippone, eleven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia handled arrangements. Burial in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Assoc. through the funeral home.
