Valley SantaCon returns, collects food, toys

Grab your Santa hat or your reindeer antlers, because the second annual Valley SantaCon Bar Crawl is Saturday, Dec. 8.

Participants are encouraged to dress up in any holiday-themed attire and bring a non-perishable food item as an entry fee. This year, SantaCon is also collecting an unwrapped toy for donation to Yale-New Haven Hospital’s Miracle on 34 Toy Drive. A toy registry for the drive has been set up at Target under “Miracle on 34 toy drive.”

Derby resident Dave D’Agostino is organizing the event. This year, the crawl is starting at 8 p.m., with crawlers meeting in the parking lot across the street from Whiskeys, 5 Main Street in Derby, and heading to the bar as a group at 8:15.

Around 10:15 the group will be escorted by police across the bridge, down Derby Main Street, to Bar None.

Drink specials will be available at both bars to those who come in costume.

More than 200 people have signed on for the event so far. Those who wish to donate food or a toy and not join the SantaCon crawl may drop off their item between 7 and 8 p.m. D’Agostino will be in the parking lot with a van to accept collections.

For more information, message Dave D’Agostino on Facebook or email him at dagostino000@yahoo.com.
