Winsley challenges DeLauro for Congressional seat

Rosa DeLauro, Democrat

A native of New Haven, Rosa has worked for the people of the Third Congressional District since 1991.She is an advocate for her constituents as well as a leader on national issues like jobs, healthcare, food safety, and equal pay for equal work for women.

Her candidate statement is below:

Nothing is more important right now than creating jobs and economic growth here at home. As I talk to people throughout Connecticut I know that hard-working, middle-class families are still struggling to get by in this challenging economy.

From the first day I entered Congress, my focus has always been to make sure the hard work of the middle class is rewarded. That is why I fight each and every day to see more well-paying jobs created in America, help with the financial pressures facing the middle class and project their retirement.

In order to get there, I believe we must invest in infrastructure, manufacturing and small businesses in order to build the foundations for long-term prosperity and growth. We need the kind of jobs that allow us to be a middle-class country again. That’s why I support tax cuts for the middle-class, eliminating special interest tax breaks and asking the wealthiest to pay more so we can address our problems.

We must lay the foundation for business success by providing incentives for small businesses and companies that create jobs here rather than overseas, while investing in manufacturing, infrastructure and innovative research and development.

As the Senior Democrat on the committee that funds the departments of labor, education and health and human services, I have supported legislation which makes health care more affordable for all, and ends insurance companies’ ability to deny someone coverage for having a preexisting condition and charge women more than men for health care services.

The issues we are discussing in this election are so critical – from protecting Medicare and Social Security to creating good-paying middle class jobs. This election is about the vision for the future, and how we move America forward.

I am so honored to represent you in Congress. On Nov. 6, I ask for your support and your vote.

Wayne Winsley, Republican

Wayne Winsley is a United States Navy veteran and is a career radio broadcaster who has been heard on air in Connecticut for over twenty years as a news anchor on WNLK/WSTC in Norwalk and WICC in Bridgeport. For ten years, he hosted of his own talk show on WINE 940AM in Danbury.

In 2003, he was elected President of the Danbury chapter of the NAACP. Winsley is a husband to April Dawn Winsley, and Father to his three children, Krystina, Marke, and Sadie.

His candidate statement is below:

I am running for U.S. Congress I believe that we can do better than we’ve done over the past twenty-two years.

A recent UCONN study shows there has been virtually no job growth in Connecticut for a generation, which means that the congressional representation for the third district and the state at large has been ineffective at spurring job growth for a generation.

It is time for a new approach. It is time for a new vision.

My vision is to help more of our neighbors out of the safety net and into full-time jobs.

My goal is to remove the barriers and uncertainty for our small, medium-sized, and large businesses so that they can start growing and hiring more of our neighbors again.

My ambition is to make sure our kids and grandkids have better opportunities than we did.

No more politics as usual, it is time to put the people first!

This election, voters have a choice between someone who will bring new and effective representation to Connecticut’s third district for ALL citizens or more of the same old politics as usual and ineffective representation that we have had for the past twenty-two years.

As your next representative, I – Wayne Winsley – will work hard to serve the citizens of the Third Congressional with forthrightness, honor, and integrity.
