Seventh-grade ‘Hawks advance to Rose Bowl

The seventh-grade Shelton Seahawks advanced to the Rose Bowl with a 22-0 victory over the Aspetuck Wildcats at Finn Stadium.

The Seahawks jumped out to an early 8-0 lead after a nifty eight-yard touchdown run by Spencer Gangi.

With a minute left in the half, quarterback Matt Rice found speedster Connor Murphy behind the Wildcat secondary for a 49-yard touchdown strike and a 14-0 halftime lead.

Early in the third quarter, Matt Rice bulled his way in for a seven-yard touchdown run to give the Seahawks a commanding 22-0 lead.

The hogs up front, consisting of Matt Trez, Jaryd Witowski, Tim Hadden, Alex Allegra, Colin Scanlon, Tyler Nolan and Jake Buckholtz dominated the front seven of Aspetuck.

Defensively, the young Seahawks picked a great time to pitch their first shutout of the year.

PJ DeJesus halted two Wildcat drives with interceptions.

Gangi also made a beautiful diving interception for Shelton.

The Seahawks were led by Robert Wood and his seven tackles followed by Jerry Sorenson, Justin Barbato, Ryan Rodko, Trez and Gangi.
