Shelton Police are asking residents to lock doors and windows and use their alarm systems, due to a recent upswing in residential and commercial burglaries.
Since Sept. 1, police have received complaints of eight residential burglaries or attempted daytime burglaries, according to a release from Det. Ben Trabka.
Residents are asked to report any suspicious activity in their neighborhoods immediately.
Suspicious activity would include unfamiliar persons knocking and ringing doorbells at houses and upon the occupant answering, the person asks for a fictitious name or address. Also, unfamiliar persons seen walking in quiet residential neighborhoods. Most of these burglaries appear to have occurred between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
Police also received 11 commercial night time burglary complaints since Sept. 1. Police are actively working with other area police departments who are experiencing similar type crimes.
