Rec Notes: Basketball for grown-ups and more

The Shelton Parks and Recreation Department offers classes at the Community Center, 41 Church Street. Pre-register in person; cash or check. After a class has started, people may still sign up. Information: 203-331-4120.

Abs, Hip and Butt Targeting — Mondays and Wednesdays, 5:30-6:15 p.m., beginning Sept. 5, eight weeks, $58. No class Oct. 8.

Yoga — Wednesdays, 7:05-8:05 p.m. or 8:10-9:10 p.m., beginning Sept. 5, 12 weeks for $78. No classes Oct. 31 and Nov. 21.

Yoga — Thursdays, 6-7 p.m. or 7:05-8:05 p.m., starting Sept. 6, 12 weeks for $78. No class Nov. 22.

Zumba Gold — Thursdays 6-7 p.m., beginning Sept. 6, eight weeks, $45.

Body Sculpting — Fridays, 8:30–9:30 a.m., beginning Sept. 7, eight weeks, $29.

Flow Yoga — Prior yoga experience required for the class Saturdays, 9:15-10:15 a.m., starting Sept. 8. Runs eight weeks, $45. No class Sept. 29.

Iyengar Yoga — Mondays, 5:30-6:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 10; 8 weeks, $45. No class Oct. 8.

Zumba Gold — Tuesdays, 6-7 p.m., starting Sept. 11, eight weeks, $45.

Pottery — Thursdays, 6:30–9 p.m., starting Sept. 13, 8 weeks, $80 plus $20 to Instructor for supplies.

Flow Yoga — Prior yoga experience required for the class Wednesdays, beginning Sept. 19, 10-11 a.m., eight weeks, $45.

Music & Movement — Wednesdays, 10–10:45 a.m., starting Sept. 19, six weeks, $60.

Children’s Tumbling — Friday mornings for six weeks, beginning Sept. 21. Times: two years old with parent, 9:30-10, $35; 3 years old without parent, 10-10:30, $35; 4-5 years old without parent, 10:30-11:15 or 11:15-12, $40.

Chinese Internal Healing Exercise Class — Wednesdays, 7-8:30 p.m., beginning Sept. 26, four weeks, $70.

Children’s Tap & Ballet — Saturdays, beginning Sept. 29, 10 weeks for $80. Times: three years at 10:30–11:15 a.m.; 4 years at 11:15–noon; 5 and 6 years at 12–12:45 p.m. No class Oct. 20.

Hip Hop Break Dance — Thursdays, 6-7 p.m., starting Nov. 8, five weeks, $65. No class Nov. 22.

The Shelton Parks and Recreation Adult Basketball League has openings for new teams for the 2012-2013 season.

Player eligibility require that a player must meet one of the following: Shelton resident, graduate of Shelton High School, Shelton property owner or work full time in Shelton. The ‘Open’ Division is for players 21 years and older.  The ‘Over 30’ Division requires that players must be at least 30 years of age as of Dec. 31.

New teams wishing to become part of the program should submit a request by Oct. 10, to Jim Carey or Ron Herrick at 41 Church Street at r.herrick@cityofshelton.org or 203-925-8422.
