Angelo Salerno

Angelo Salerno, 81, of Ansonia, beloved and devoted husband of Addolorata Giugno Salerno, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Sunday August 26, 2012, at Gardner Heights in Shelton.

Mr. Salerno was born in Caltanissetta, Sicily, Italy on September 29, 1930, son of the late Luigi and Giuseppina Antolina Salerno.

A resident of Ansonia for 39 years, he was employed at the former Hull Dye in Derby and later at Sikorsky Aircraft in Stratford until his retirement.

He enjoyed gardening, wine making, playing bocce, and especially spending time with his loving family.

In addition to his wife Addolorata, he is survived by a son, Antonio Salerno and his wife Jodi of Shelton, three daughters, Giuseppina DeSimone and her husband Angelo of Seymour, Biagia Giaimo and her husband Natale and Maria LaLuna and her husband Andrew of Ansonia, three brothers, Salvatore, Benito, and Nicola Salerno of Sicily, Italy, a sister, Rosa Cerami of Sicily, Italy, 11 cherished grandchildren, Niel DeSimone of Seymour, Stefano Giaimo (Michelle), Antonio Giaimo, Ida Giaimo, and Maria Giaimo of Ansonia, Antonio Salerno, Kayla Giampaolo, Jenna Giampaolo, of Shelton, Joseph Riddle, Nicole LaLuna, and Emily LaLuna of Ansonia, a great-granddaughter, Isabella Giaimo, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by brothers, Michele, Pasquale, and Giuseppe Salerno and a sister, Addolorata Pernaci.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral on Thursday August 30, 2012, at 9:15 am from the SPINELLI-RICCIUTI FUNERAL HOME, 62 Beaver Street in Ansonia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Holy Rosary Church in Ansonia. Interment will follow in Mt. St. Peter Cemetery in Derby. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 4-8 pm.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association through the funeral home.
