Mario D’Addario Shelton Auto Group, with the assistance of another business, is donating a vehicle for the St. Vincent’s Swim Across the Sound car raffle.

The car raffle is expected to raise about $60,000 to benefit the Swim and the Mario and Irma D’Addario Hypertension Fund at St. Vincent’s Medical Center.

Shelton resident Tom D’Addario is owner of Mario D’Addario Shelton Auto Group. Also helping with the car donation is William B. Meyer Transportation & Storage Solutions of Stratford, a moving van company.

This year, the raffle winner will get a 2014 Nissan Juke SV.

Breakfast is April 30

The car raffle drawing will take place at Swim Across the Sound Celebrity Breakfast on Wednesday, April 30 at 7:30 a.m. at the Bridgeport Holiday Inn, 1070 Main St., Bridgeport.

The speaker will be former Major League Baseball pitcher Tommy John, who also was manager of the Bridgeport Bluefish after his playing career.

Tommy John is best remembered for his role with the Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Yankees in the 1970s and 1980s, and for the orthopedic surgery that now bears his name. He has 288 wins during his career.

About 400 people are expected to attend the fund-raising event. It will include breakfast, John’s talk, a silent and live auction of sports memorabilia, sports commentary, and the car raffle drawing.

Supporting cancer charity

The money raised will support the 45 cancer screening, education, prevention, support and financial assistance programs offered through the Swim.

At the event, each table sponsor will serve as a “celebrity waiter” for their friends and colleagues. In return, the waiters hope to earn a $100 tip from each of them.

Individual tickets for the breakfast are $100 each and a table sponsorship, which includes a table for 10, is available for $500.

To learn more about attending the event or to purchase a car raffle ticket, call the St. Vincent’s Medical Center Foundation at 203-576-5451 or go to www.swimacrossthesound.org.
