Manuel Matues Amaral

Manuel Matues Amaral, 99, of Shelton, died on Thursday, August 16, 2012 at the Connecticut Hospice in Branford after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Alice Caravalho Amaral.

Mr. Amaral was born in Sao Miguel in the Azore Islands. He immigrated to the United States, settling first in New Bedford, Mass. He joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Hawaii where he met his wife.

Mr. Amaral was retired from Sikorsky Aircraft. He was an avid sports fan and loved the Boston Red Sox and the Oakland Raiders.

He will be sadly missed by his loving family.

Survivors include three sons, Milt Amaral and his wife, Pat of Trumbull, John Amaral and his wife, Patricia of Shelton and Andrew Amaral of Michigan; four grandchildren, Stephen Amaral, Natllie Amaral, Alicia Amaral and Kathryn Amaral; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his granddaughter, Lisa Amaral.

Private funeral services have been entrusted to the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford.

In lieu of flowers, those who so desire, may make contributions in his memory to CT Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, CT 06405.
