Local theater seeks volunteer help

Center Stage Theatre, 54 Grove Street, a volunteer organization, needs help constructing scenery.

Shelton resident Ron Baldwin designs and oversees the construction of all of the sets, but as the theater moves into its eighth season, Baldwin needs help, said Gary Scarpa, artistic director. During the last season, one member of his small crew of volunteers moved out of state and, more recently, another underwent surgery and will be unavailable for a number of months.

Scarpa is asking people to consider volunteering to help Baldwin construct scenery.

While people with experience using power tools would be helpful, specialized skills aren’t necessary, Scarpa said, and volunteers would be need for as little as one night a week.

Baldwin will begin constructing the set for Barefoot in the Park on Monday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m., and will work Monday through Thursday nights between 7 and 9:30 p.m. each week until opening night on Friday, Sept. 28.

Volunteer help is also needed sewing costumes and painting.

Those interested in volunteering may call 203-225-6079 or email centerstageshelton@sbcglobal.net.
