A run is planned to honor soldiers injured overseas

An event is coming in August to help honor service personnel injured in the War on Terror as well as their families.

Registration is now open for the annual Sunset Run for the Warriors, which includes a 10K, a one-mile walk/run, and a fun run around the green for kids.

The race will begin at the Huntington Green on Sunday, Aug. 19. The event is scheduled to run from 1 to 3, with packet pick-up and same day registration; 4:15, opening ceremony; 4:45, Kids Run around the green; 5, 10K and one-mile start; 6:15, closing ceremony.

Cost for the 10K and the one-mile is $20, with special pricing for veterans, military, families and students. The Kids Run is $7. Register or for more information, go to www.hopeforthewarriors.org.

“The Run for the Warriors is not about speed or winning,” said Tina Atherall, Hope for the Warriors executive vice president. “The Run for the Warriors demonstrates to our local military families that as a community, we are here to honor their service and sacrifices.”

All proceeds will benefit Hope for the Warriors, a national nonprofit organization that assists combat wounded service members, their families, and families of the fallen. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. Contact John Lisa (jlisa@hopeforthewarriors.org) to learn more.
