There is a severe thunderstorm warning in effect for Shelton and the area. The storm, which is moving into Connecticut includes winds over 60 mph. At 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, the storm was near Scarsdale and White Plains, N.Y., moving east at 10 mph.
While the warning is for all of Fairfield County, the weather service specifically mentioned Wilton, Westport, Norwalk and New Canaan in Connecticut.
According to the National Weather Service forecast for Shelton, storms are likely after 4 p.m. and could be severe, with large hail, high winds and heavy rain.
“This is a dangerous storm,” the weather service warned. “If you are in its path, prepare immediately for damaging winds, destructive hail and deadly cloud-to-ground lighting. People outside should move to a shelter, preferably inside a strong building but away from windows.”
The severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Wednesday night.
