Joseph F. Martino

Joseph F. Martino, 91, of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest on Monday, July 16, 2012, in his home with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (Pascucillo) Martino.

Joseph was born in Derby on September 1, 1920, son of the late Thomas and Theodora Martino, and he lived in Derby and Shelton all of his life.

From a very young age Joe supported his families’ business by delivering ice, earning himself the nickname “Ice Man”.

He proudly served his country with the US Army in WWII in the European theater and participated in the liberation of France. Returning from the war, he managed the family business delivering ice, coal, and oil in town. Joe also worked for the W.E. Bassett Co. and spent over twenty years as a material handler for USM before retirement in 1985.

He is the beloved father of Thomas Martino and his wife JoAnn, and cherished grandfather of Joseph and Elizabeth Martino. He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son William Martino, three brothers, Anthony, Emilio, and John Martino, and three sisters, Rose Paduano, Mary Verderame, and Margaret Sciarretta.

Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Wednesday from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. A funeral service will begin at the funeral home on Wednesday at 10:30 AM. Burial with Full Military Honors will follow at Mt. St. Peters Cemetery in Derby.
