Man in critical condition after motorcycle accident

A Monroe man sustained life-threatening injuries Sunday night after a vehicle and motorcycle accident on Leavenworth Road, according to Shelton Police.

The accident occurred at the driveway entrance of Mont’s Mart after 7 p.m.

The driver of the motorcycle, 30 year-old Adam Haydu, was transported by EMS to Bridgeport Hospital where his condition remains critical. The driver of the vehicle, 33 year-old James Steinmetz of Monroe, sustained minor injuries, but was not transported to the hospital for any treatment. There were no other occupants in the car or on the motorcycle. Both the vehicle and the motorcycle were heavily damaged.

The Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team, with assistance from the Trumbull Police Traffic Division, was called to investigate the accident. The roadway was closed until approximately 1:30a.m. Monday morning.

The Shelton Police Traffic Division Reconstruction Team is still investigating this accident. No enforcement action has been taken at this time. Any witnesses or persons with additional information may call the Shelton Police Traffic Division at (203) 924-1544.
