Congressman Jim Himes, who represents most of Shelton, ranks among the most pro-environment legislators in Congress, according to the League of Conservation Voters (LCV).
Himes earned a grade of 96 on the LCV 2013 National Environmental Scorecard, and has received a grade of 95 since taking office in early 2009.
“We have a moral obligation to preserve our planet for future generations, handing it over to our children in as good or better condition than we received it from our parents,” said Himes, a Democrat now in his third term representing the Fourth District.
Criticizes Republican leadership
“Unfortunately,” Himes said, “the House majority this Congress has taken it upon themselves to try to roll back important environmental protections and increase our reliance on dirty fossil fuels, and I was proud to stand on the side of keeping our air safe to breathe and our water clean to drink.”
For the 2013 scorecard, members of Congress were graded based on 28 votes on issues ranging from renewable energy investments to clean drinking water protection.
Other House members from CT
Himes’ LCV score was in line with other members of Connecticut’s U.S. House delegation for 2013. The state’s five-person U.S. House delegation had an overall score of 96, tying for the highest in the country with New Hampshire.
The scores given to the state’s other U.S. House members for 2013 were:

— Congressman Joe Courtney, 96 (Second District, eastern Connecticut)
— Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, 96 (Third District, New Haven area)
— Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty, 96 (Fifth District, northwestern Connecticut)
