Six Shelton residents listed as taking part in Boston Marathon

Six Shelton residents were among the runners listed taking part in the Boston Marathon on Monday, according to baa.org, the Boston Athletic Association website.

Two explosions shattered the scene at the finish line in Copley Square just before 3 p.m. on April 15. Three people have died and dozens have been seriously injured.

Most, if not all, of the Shelton runners had finished the race by the time the explosions occurred.

The Shelton runners

According to the Boston Athletic Association website, the runners listed as being from Shelton are:

—Randy A. Chamberland, 52

—Amanda R. Jacob, 22

—Michael Kane, 52

—Sarah Kellogg, 25

—Neil S. Mandel, 59

—Lydia G. Tilsley, 48

There is no reason to believe any of the Shelton participants were impacted by the tragic event. The Boston Marathon attracts tens of thousands of runners from around the world as well as tens of thousands of spectators.

A run for charity

The Shelton Herald wrote a story about the participation of Amanda R. Jacob, a 2008 Shelton High School graduate who raised money today for a memorial fund established for one of the Newtown student victims.

Jacob grew up in Shelton and attended local schools, but now works as a clinical dietitian in Charlotte, N.C. She was running in the race to raise money for the Chase Kowalski Memorial Fund, named after a Sandy Hook Elementary School first-grader who had loved to run.
