Shelton woman launches jewelry business with a twist

Cathy Pereira of Shelton has started a new business, Cathy’s Custom Lockets, which will hold events where people can create one-of-a-kind personalized jewelry.

During the interactive gatherings, Pereira will assist guests in making jewelry that reflects their own style.

Pereira will be an independent designer with Origami Owl Custom Jewelry, a direct sales company. Origami Owl was founded by 14-year-old entrepreneur Isabella Weems.

“Inspired by the desire to create jewelry that would be beautiful, meaningful, whimsical and fun, Isabella Weems launched the company with the goal of saving enough money to buy her first car,” according to publicity material.

Customizing a necklace with charms

In 2010, Weems introduced the Living Locket, a necklace that can be customized with charms that represent things important to the person who wears the necklace. “Women absolutely love creating unique pieces of jewelry that reflect their own style,” Weems said.
