Shelton woman gets marriage proposal at St. Patrick’s Day parade

Kate Thompson from Shelton received a unique marriage proposal with a connection to St. Patrick’s Day.

Thompson was the honor attendant for the New Haven St. Patrick’s Day parade on March 10. After she got out of the car and walked to the grandstand and bleachers to thank her family and friends for coming, her boyfriend Dan Carr crossed the street.

Carr knelt on his knees as he proposed to her, and Thompson answered in the affirmative.

“The crowd went wild,” according to family members present.

Thompson is a 2006 graduate of Shelton High school and currently attends Gateway Community College. She is the daughter of Bob and Trish Thompson of Shelton.

Carr is a chef at Rainbow Gardens in Milford, where he lives. He is the son of Craig and Liz Carr of Milford.
